In Hungarian research can some one help in telling me if Agnetha is Agnes americanized.

    Yes, Agnetha is a form of Agnes, but it's more a Latinized form than either Hungarian or American.

    Church registers -- especially Roman Catholic ones -- were often in Latin, and it was standard practice to always translate given names into the language you were writing in. When the vernacular form was basically the same as the Latin (such as Ágnes versus Agnes), but there was an alternative form available in Latin (Agnetha), many clerks or priests would choose the alternative form, believing it to be "more true" or "more formal" (or "more intellectual").

    And many RC priests had their own variations on Latin forms names/words/declensions.
