  • What are you trying to accomplish? Why? Tagging source to MARRIAGE event, to improve documentation of the MARRIAGE event, and to help avoid contention and improve communications among family members/users.
  • What is the challenge or roadblock you are encountering? Because MARRIAGE event does not include a drop-down list of the attached sources (as available in other vital events), I've had to call Helpline; we found a convoluted way to tag the source to the marriage event but that method certainly is not consistent with the ease found for the other vital events.
  • What is your idea? Please add the drop-down feature (drop-down list of sources) to the MARRIAGE event. HELP!!!!!
  • How would solving this challenge improve your experience? Prevent having to spend undue time trying to connect document to the marriage event; help avoid contention and improve communications among family members/users. HELP!!!!!

There is a sources list for the marriage event. The problem is, it's completely separate from the sources lists of the profiles involved, and you have to add things to it separately.

Once you've added a source to this separate list, you can then tag it to the marriage event using basically the same procedures that are now available for items under Other Information. However, given the proximity of the event and the list, and the absence of a tag count display, it seems a bit ...pointless. (In the screenshot, the marriage has been tagged with its source, but you can't see that without further clicks.)

They're asking for a way to easily add a source to the Relationships source list from the person's source list.

Adding that marriage source to the relationship's sources list was actually exactly like adding it to a profile's sources list: I clicked Add Source, chose From Source Box, found the source, and clicked Attach. (This was possible because I generally save marriage records in my box, since the Attach To Family Tree button on unindexed images only covers one set of parents.)

I've often wondered about the purpose or utility of having the "add to source box" checkbox in Source Linker. I mean, index entries are supposed to be attached to just one profile, so I'm never going to need it again, right? Well, maybe this is why it's there: if I make sure it's checked for all relationship sources, I can (relatively) easily add the source to the relationship's list.

Now, granted, it would be far preferable to be able to skip this tedious step entirely, with the relationship's sources list just being a combination of the sources lists of the profiles involved. The current setup feels like make-work, spoonfeeding stuff to the system that it ought to be able to fetch on its own. But until/unless this changes, we need to use the tools available, and for this, the appropriate tool is your Source Box.

This assumes you're the person wanting to do this is the one who linked it in the first place. We now have a legacy backlog of probably a million marriage records that are attached to individuals' source pages but not to their relationship source lists. It's a fair request, maybe instead of trying to rationalize it away or explaining labyrinthian workarounds we can just agree and pressure the devs into making the requested improvements.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly that the current setup needs help. See the third paragraph of my post that you quoted from.
