Please revert to the former search engine algorithm
It took some years before an "Exact" search gave results that matched ones inputs - exactly. Due to some unwanted tweaking by the engineers, results are now not even being prioritised.
Take this example at https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&q.givenName=Samuel%20&q.givenName.exact=on&q.residenceDate.from=1861&q.residenceDate.to=1861&q.residencePlace=durham%2A&q.residencePlace.exact=on&q.surname=J%2Ah%2An&q.surname.exact=on&treeref=L66J-ZK1&f.collectionId=1493747, partly illustrated in the screenshot.
I was looking for instances of a Samuel Johnson (variant surname spellings) who are to be found in the 1861 census residing in the county of Durham. Of the 20 results I have been given, true, all match the first & last names inputs, but "Durham" does not feature in 5 of these records - including the one at the top of the list!
Please don't go backwards here - in the 2010s an "Exact" search was never literally that, then - for quite some time - it did produce the expected results, now we're back to where we were some years ago. If I wanted those Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire results I wouldn't have checked "Match Residence Place Exactly".
