A tip from me: South African Church Membership records - some can be tricky

I am attaching a record that shows another way to look for the actual member's date that has to be used.

The record on the second line: Aletta Christina Pretorius: Wanneer Voorgestel - if there is a date in that column, that is the date that we usually have to use to show when the member was adopted and proposed in this church.

In this case there is a date, but the member was adopted as a member in 1948, BUT this is not the date that he was adopted in THIS church. If you look to the right you will see the date 17 Aug 1961. This is the date you should use in this case, according to the inscription dates on the top of the page. Before this date, he was from another church (VAN WAAR) in Hartzwater.

Hope it makes sence

Hester
