Bug in Notifications

My Community user name is MaureenE123

I received a notification

"genthusiast mentioned you in How do I report a member"

This surprised me as i could not imagine why I would be mentioned.

When I looked I could see that the person mentioned was not me, but a different person who also had Maureen in their Community User name.

This is a bug which needs to be fixed.

Probably what happened was that genthusiast typed as far as "Maureen", selected a choice that looked familiar, and clicked Post, then scrolled up and realized that that was the wrong Maureen, and went back and edited the post. The notification, however, had already been generated.

There is actually a bug in the @ routine in Community - at least on Android (see the bottom of my post). The @ routine did select MaureenE123 but I clicked on Maureen E Ritter (I think maybe it defaults to the first - as Julia mentions). I also think once a comment is commented it does not allow edit. As I mentioned in the thread I submitted this bug behavior long ago. Sorry to have bothered you MaureenE123.

Thanks for commenting @genthusiast . Sad that you have previously reported the problem, but nothing has been done to fix it.

They did fix the @ for that post - but I don't know about the bug... they took away my reference to a bug at the bottom of that post. It's ok. Sorry to have startled or caused confusion.

    @Maile.L

I now have a second bug to report, which may be connected with the above. I am now not receiving any notifications at all. I have seen two posts recently which have have included @MaureenE123 but which I have not received, and were also not in my junk mail. This seems a fairly recent development, with the last notification 29 March 2023.

@genthusiast I did receive the notification from your post of 4 April, so either my problem is an intermittent one (in which case it will be ongoing but intermittent), or perhaps it has gone away. Only time will tell.

Just to clarify, as I can see I have not been as clear as I should have been.

My initial bug report about receiving notification when I was the "wrong Maureen" was in respect of both email notification, and notification through the bell icon at the top of the Community webpage.

My 2nd bug report about not receiving notifications when my name had been mentioned in someone else's post was in respect of email notifications only. I was receiving notifications through the bell icon.

@MaureenE123 Just a quick check before we move on to additional diagnosing. With this second email notification problem, can you confirm that your preferences for email notifications are ON? A screenshot would be great!

@AnneLoForteWillson Perhaps my 2nd bug report was intermittent as I did receive email notification of your post immediately above.

However, looking at my email notifications, perhaps that is the problem, as the line "Notify me when people mention me" was not ticked for emails. I did look at my settings recently and I am sure I ticked everything relevant. However, I have now changed the email preferences.

Could the problem be that the email settings are being unticked by something in the system?

But if this is so, how did I receive an email notification in respect of the post from Anne?

    It's very confusing!
