What city did grampa refer to?

Berdychiv is a good find, and one that makes much more sense to me than Bardovo in Russia and Bardejov in Slovakia. That's because Grampa told his daughter-in-law (my aunt) that he emigrated from "near Kyiv" to the U.S.
So when I saw "Bardelhov" on the D.C., I was really taken aback, wondering where he was born and raised before moving to northern Ukraine.
I will revise the family tree entry for him to show Berdychiv. Thanks!

There is a Russian Empire research group. Why don't you join it and pose your question there? Russian Empire Research — FamilySearch Community

Bardejov in Slovakia is sometimes mis-heard/mis-spelled as Bardelov, but that has absolutely nothing to do with Russia. (It was formerly Bártfa, Sáros county, Hungary.)

Also worth bearing in mind is that as this is from his death certificate, it was not your grandfather that supplied that information. It may say who did, and that may give you some clue as to how good their knowledge of the facts was likely to be.

Google does suggest two possibles: Bardovo and Berdychiv, respectively a village and a city. You could pick one, but you would be guessing.
My advice would be to enter his birthplace as Russian Empire and leave it at that. More historical records may turn up that provide additional details.
