Argentina passenger lists -- include additional information in inventory
I can imagine why these lists have not yet been indexed. Many are in poor shape, and the entire collection is fragmentary. Nevertheless, some additional information in the inventory shown on the catalog would be helpful. Just looking at the lists for overseas ports (Puertos de ultramar) I notice that most volumes represent arrivals, but some represent departures. It would be helpful for the inventory to include that information. In most cases the cataloger would have to page through several pages to make sure which type of record he or she is dealing with. Has this work has already been done and the information included in some internal FamilySearch records? It would be very helpful to researchers. I realize that this collection comes from the Archivo General de la Nacion and the descriptive material is probably not changed from that used by the archives.

The catalog entries show entradas (arrivals) and salidas (departures).
The contract between the relevant Argentine office and FamilySearch will determine when/if those records can be indexed.
The catalog has been locked for nearly 2 years, while an update is underway.

Ah, entradas and salidas are shown only for Entradas y salidas de pasajeros, 1821-1871, not for Argentina, registros migratorios, 1882-1937. I should have clarified that it is the latter to which I referred.

It's always a good idea to include the URL of the record set so we don't talk apples and oranges.
