Trying to edit place of birth on a naturalization record to correct spelling. Edit feature is forcing me to choose standard location which is not what is in the record.
Place of birth in record: Otatac, Croatia, Jugoslavia
Transcription: Otatac, Croatia, Juloslavia
Standardization suggestion: Croatia, Yugoslavia (dropping village name)
I suspect the village name is actually Otacac, Croatia but would prefer ability to transcribe what is actually in the document.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HVGZ-ZZN2 has enough information for Frank to be found in a search, so I personally wouldn't change anything. It is possible that other records for him contain the correct town name.

@Maile L, your comment points out the net effect of the "standard or nothing" behavior of the index correction function: it may as well not be available at all, because using it degrades the data.

I agree that the place could be Otočac in Croatia. There is a municipality Otočac, Like-Senj, Croatia, Yugoslavia in the standardized drop down that could be chosen. However, the years provided for the municipality are after both Frank's birth and immigration.
I have not researched that area and typically do not make edits on a guess without other evidence to corroborate that Frank's Otacac is Otočac, Like-Senj, Croatia, Yugoslavia. I would look for other records that may also give a birth place, such as on a draft card, or at least try to see his hand-written version of this application. That is why I suggested not changing it from it's current information. If someone knows more about the area in general or Frank specifically, they could make a better call than I can, perhaps even requesting a place name correction or addition.
