Hope this isn't a dumb question, but is it possible to post photos of people on FamilySearch (deceased) that I have in my possession and identified that are NOT related to me- so that THEIR living relatives can have the photo if the want it?

Would these photos come up in search results?

I have lots of old pics that my grandparents had that I think their relatives would like to have. I know if there were photos of my relatives I would like to see them...

    Hello Joseph,

You asked if it is possible to post photos in FamilySearch who are not related to you.

In principle yes but you need to be aware of copyright issues.

    • Many materials used in family history research are protected by copyright laws. Unless you created an item, it is best to assume that it is protected by copyright law. Once you can verify you have legal permission, you can make copies or upload the information. Be sure to ask permission first.

We hope that this information has been useful to you.

It is always good to use photos as a photo can tell you so much about the person.

photos before 1923 would generally be in the public domain - and no copyright applies.
