1940 Census

I can view the page I want from the 1940 census but the entire page will not print. I get just part of the page. Or, I get the 1920 census. This occurs with both Family Search and Ancestry. The 1940 census is from Benton Harbor Michigan., Ward 4.

Thanks

I have tried numerous times to download a page from the 1940 census from both Family Search and Ancestry. The page does not load properly and will even print the 1920 census.

download the image - and then import it into a Word document - and then you can size the image to fit on the printed page (also minimize your margins)

The problem that you are having is that your computer/printer is trying to print it at the original scanner resolution/size - and that often wont fit on one page

though some printers with the printer driver have an option that will "size to fit page" that should also work - but you may not have that option. (and that's a function of your unique printer and not FamilySearch)

also consider whether landscape or portrait mode will better handle your image

You can also Print to PDF - and choosing a very large page size.

for most people there really is no need to be printing to paper - just save to pdf and save on a flash drive and save the trees. i.,e. (printing to a digital copy instead of physical paper)

Thanks for your reply. I did copy and put in a Word doc but that was not much better. But as with all gen research, perseverance! Will try again.

The other problem was that both FS and Ancestry defaulted to print the 1920 census when I tried to print and read the 1940 census. Goblins.

copying into Word is only the FIRST step

you then need to RESIZE the image inside Word - so that it fits on one page -

THEN you can print it out and it will print on one page

    Would a screenshot work?
