Reserving names

I have reserved 4 names and want to share them with my Henrie group but the computer won't allow sharing them. What Can I do?

Also, where do I go to find out about the new rules? Some seem to have longer reservation deadlines than others. I have no idea what is going on with the new deadlines.

4 Names:

LZX1-532 George Pickering Nichols( has 2 years)

KCMS-WPZ Captain Hosea Edmunds (the rest have 4 months)

KZ8Z-21N Daniel S. Lee

K6HV-RMJ Sophronia Alton

Hello Katherine, thank you for your enquiry. We hope that this excerpt from the Knowledge Article https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-long-do-you-have-to-complete-ordinances-before-reservations-expire is helpful:

Ordinances that you reserve using the Ordinances Ready feature generally expire in 120 days. Ordinances that you reserve in Family Tree generally expire in 2 years. To see when the ordinances you have reserved expire, go to your temple reservation list on the FamilySearch.org website or in the Family Tree mobile app.

Note: When a person shares an ancestor's ordinances with the temple, those ordinances are available for other descendants to reserve. This second reservation expires in 120 days and cannot be shared. It can only be unreserved. After 120 days, the ordinance is returned to the temple, and the person who originally shared the ordinance has the option to unshare it.

    Expiration extensions

Expiration dates get extended automatically by 1 year when 1 or more of the reserved ordinances is completed within the original 2-year reservation. The ordinance of sealing-to-spouse is a separate reservation, however, and is not connected to any of the other reservations you may hold for a particular ancestor.

Completing an ordinance such as initiatory or endowment will not extend your reservation for the sealing.

    Names shared with the temple

Ordinances shared with the temple do not expire as long as they remain shared with the temple.

    Names shared with family groups

Ordinances shared with a family group will expire follows:

    • The person who reserves the ordinance and shares it with the group has 2 years to complete the ordinances.
    • The person who reserves the ordinance from the group has 120 days to print the card.

Check your reservation list to see the expiration date of each name.

Names shared with family and friends

Sharing ordinances with family or friends does not reset the ordinance expiration date.

    Receiving notifications about expiring reservations

Three weeks before the reservation expires, you will receive a FamilySearch message telling you about the upcoming expiration. You will receive another message after the reservation has expired. You can use the information in the notification to find the person in Family Tree and re-reserve the ordinances as long as they are still available.

If the Ordinances you have reserved are also shared with the temple, they cannot then be shared with a Family group.

For example - George Pickering Nicholls (LZX1-532 ) - this was previously shared with the temple so you will be unable to share with a family group. Your reservation is only valid for 120 days at which time it will revert back to "shared with temple" if the work is not done.

I hope this helps you understand the process better.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure what the difference between Ordinances Ready and Family Tree means.

Please see this Help Center article:

What do the different temple icons and statuses mean?

Here is an excerpt from this article to help explain the differences you are seeing in reserving temple ordinances.

    image.png

A green temple icon with a stopwatch are ordinances that have been shared with the temple by another user, or are ordinances that are shared with a family group. If you choose to reserve these ordinances, you have 120-days to complete the temple work before the reservation expires. These ordinances have already been shared by another user and as such, you can only reserve them and complete them. You cannot share them again to another person or group; unless you are the original holder of the reservation. If that is the case, then you can un-share them from the shared temple list or family group and share with another process.

The green temple icon without the watch means that the ordinance is currently available to request - no other user has it currently requested. These reservations have 2 years for completion. You need to be related to the person whose ordinances you are requesting and if they were born in the last 110 years you need to have permission. The system will notify you if you need permission on one of these ordinances.

As you work in the Family Tree, you may work on a family where you need to add new people to the Tree. If these people are related to you and are older than 110 years, you may choose to reserve their ordinances. This will give you 2 years to complete them.

Ordinances Ready selects ordinances from the following places:

    1. Your family names list (or "temple list" or "reservation list"). 2 years
    2. Family names that you shared with a family group. 120 days
    3. Family names that have been shared with a family group that you belong to. 120 days
    4. Your family names that you shared with the temple. 120 days
    5. Names of people who are related to you that have been shared with the temple by someone else. 120 days
    6. "Green temples" from your tree. 2 years
    7. Your ward. 120 days
    8. Your stake. 120 days
    9. Names not related to you that have been shared with the temple. 120 days

    Yes the explanation worked! Thanks.

I still believe that once a name is shared with the temple, that when I reserve that name (2nd time) allowing me to share with my group would allow much more temple work to be done. I am growing my temple workers in my group and would like to see my reservations go to my group as one share and not be limited by the rule, so that we can work as a team.

An additional thought is that I now do not reserve names that I cannot share. When I can't get the work, and because of the rule, my group can't get the names done.
