I quoted from a person I am working with as a FamilySearch Helper who wrote the following request. Can anyone do a follow-up on helping locate private gravesites for Findagrave and do the photos, etc. so the sources can be cinsidered valid? Are there LDS "groups" doing this already throught the world? Who would know and can that contact information be included in this thread? >

"....When I lived in Madison, GA I was a member of the local Conservancy. This group used student interns to explore the countryside and family farms to identify all the private graves sites throughout Morgan County. I was reminded of a discussion that the LDS will go out and record these for the Web - photos and GPS positions. Do you know a contact at LDS interested in these graves to refer to the Conservancy.

    Thanks for your help"

Billiongraves does do the GPS location stuff and that makes it value-added.

I don't know of any over-arching group that does these. I believe that most of this type of recording has been done by small, special-interest groups. It might be something to bring up with a local Scout troop or the YW/YM or Young Single Adults of your local ward or stake.

FindAGrave already has the ability to request photos of any particular gravesite. I do not believe they have GPS coordinates, though. I think only BillionGraves does the GPS coordinates.

any Findagrave volunteer if they know the exact location - can attempt to locate the owners of private property to see if they can photograph the graves.

Findagrave also has fields to add GPS Coordinates
