Lock account button
While it is great that everyone around the world is contributing to building up the lines and filling in gaps, there have often been horrible mistakes that have been made to my line. I wish there was a lock button that we could turn on so as to not allow anyone to change our lines. If it would give us the suggestion that they are trying to make, and we could approve it or not, that would be best but for now, a lock button would be preferred. It is a lot of hard work to find information on people, and now I have to do it again. Please help!
While I largely agree - many here in Community do not wish to allow profiles/trees to be 'locked' (there are some good reasons for open-edit). If you would like to share some profiles IDs that have had bad changes - there are some very proficient Community members that could take a look - and help.0
While restoring a profile after incorrect edits is unquestionably work, and annoying, you should not need to find information again: everything is tracked in the change log, and can be restored from there.
One major problem I see with the idea of user-locked profiles is the determination of who has that priviledge. People editing your relatives almost always believe them to be their relatives, too. How would the system determine the "ownership" of each profile?
That said, if you'd rather work in a not-quite-fully-open-edit shared tree, I suggest you try WikiTree. It has profile managers and trusted lists to limit editing rights on profiles.0
