Friend did not receive his own temple work before his death

I have a friend that joined the church about 15 months ago. He did go to the temple and do baptisms for the dead but did not go and receive his own temple work before his death, about 7 months ago. I look for him in family search and thought i would find him in there because he is a deceased member of the church. I am somewhat knew to how this works...does the church add him in or do i need to work with the family to get it done?
