How to add standard place name that is not in FamilyTree.
DO NOT CONFUSE with entering data in a record. PLEASE do not go there. I am not a beginner. I am a expert. Per Google a expert is someone that does something over 10,000 times. You can multiply my experience several times past that.
I see lots of back and forth on what standard place name means, etc in community discussions.
Nothing on how to get the data base to recognize it as a NEW suggested place name that is NOT shown to chose from the list provided.
For example
See record GV76-GC4 death place. Mill City, Marion, Oregon, United States
Standard place name only has Linn county. Per Google search Mill City is a city in Linn and Marion counties in the U.S. state of Oregon on Oregon Route 22.
I also have a suggested place. Where I live.
Mansfield, Spink, South Dakota, United States
Where is Mansfield, Brown, South Dakota, United States county in standard place names.
I can tell you it is across the highway that goes through town on the North side.
About 20% of the town is there. It is important to have place in correct county because that is where the county records are kept.
Please let me know how to suggest correct place names and how long does it take to get them accepted.
When I learned this process many years ago you entered the place name at the time of the event. County names and boundaries change often back then. You had to know the county name at the time to find records. That has no to little meaning now it seems.
Thanks Nolan

The process of Suggesting a place not yet standardized has been discussed multiple times here in Community. It is fairly straight forward and is done through the Places Authority/Database:
Here is a Help Center article on the topic:
It would almost be easier to add the information for you - or show you - than to type out the process - but it is best if you learn how to do so yourself - so I will try to provide some help here. The Help Center article explains there is no turn around timeframe - just as quick as the team handling the suggestions can get to them (wish I was on that team - but we're all kind of on the Places team). It looks like this article is pretty thorough in explaining the process - Article Id: 13542 January 11, 2022.
First, go to the Places database (first link above):
For your Mill City query, you will select City as the category> Next.
Then you will enter the Place information you are suggesting> Next. It will check the database to see if the place already exists. It doesn't find it so you get to:
You can Create Place! Which will provisionally create the place - meaning FamilySearch still needs some additional information and data to complete the standardization of the place.
Once you get this far - come back to this thread and someone (myself or any of the Place knowledgeable Community contributors) can assist you further with submitting standardization information. I particularly like @Gordon Collett contributions to Places - he is very knowledgeable.
Places still have an associated timeframe for standardization.
I never claim to be expert at anything (but I sure have strong opinions ... I'm sure that's the definition of something...) - not sure if I am up to 10,000 repetitions - if I am - I have to relearn things all the time...
