Take away the downvote button here in Suggest an Idea
In line with the comments of @s10297588641 at https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/137498/up-and-down-post-voting-buttons-on-communtity#latest please remove the non-functioning "downvote" button. It serves no purpose and I am surprised its existence has not been queried previously.

That is very interesting. I can downvote with my mod account but not with my public account. I will definitely pass this on. Thanks

There is one location where public profile has 'downvote' capability. I will leave it as an Easter egg for others to find. But yes, it does not function in Ideas category - which largely diminishes its usefulness to any public user (other than as mentioned by Chas below - though the state of the contextual 'help' "You don't have permission..." lags).

I think the downvote arrow does have one function, it can downvote your own upvote if you change your mind.

@Chas Howell, nope, it doesn't even work for that. If you've upvoted something unintentionally, you can click the upvote arrow again to remove your vote, but clicking the downvote arrow results in the "you don't have permission to do that" message.

I recall formerly being able to downvote a suggested idea I had previously upvoted, so in effect cancelling my upvote. But for a long time now (more than a year?) I can only click again the supposedly unavailable upvote arrow to remove the upvote, just as @Julia Szent-Györgyi says. This interface behavior is highly cryptic.

It is also very demoralizing for people who are putting themselves out there to ask questions in the first place.

@JulieSDuMond, hmm? How is it demoralizing? It doesn't work. At all.

All I can say is that the first question I posted only has one vote listed and it is a down vote. I was so humiliated that I almost dropped the community for good. It still makes me insecure every time I see it. As I understand it, the vote is still available to supervisors or someone higher up the chain than me.

@JulieSDuMond, are you talking about the arrows thingy?
There's no downvote recorded there. That's a single upvote.
