Surnames mispelled by priests

I am indexing the Galway Parish Records. It seems the priest may have had his own way of spelling some of the surnames and locations. If I'm using the list provided by FS that lists the most common surnames and see that is the only way the name is spelled, should I use the recorded spelling by the priest with "or" listed after it followed by the spelling suggested in the common surname list?

For indexing purposes always record names as written.

FamilySearch has algorithms to deal with creative phonetic spelling.

Check the individual entry Field Helps for location information. It gives more specific information. The Project Instructions also have more details on Indexing Latin Documents.

Thank you both for your answers. The Field Helps did have location information and that was why I wondered if I should spell the city names as the priest did or as the location names document spelled them. This particular batch had nothing in Latin. Again, thank you for taking the time to answer. I appreciate it so much.
