I have been actively editing the names of those enrolled on the 1950 US Census - NY ED 30-500B (#108842949) - US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, Nassau, NY.

I have run into two stumbling blocks and noted that sheet 19 is listed as sheet 11. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6XYQ-Q2L2

Sheets 1-2 are of the support population of the academy that were recorded in ink on April 5, 1950 by Walter G Shaver, Jr.

Sheets 3-35 are for the cadet midshipmen that were recorded from military ICR’s  in pencil on a punch key ready sheets between 17-20 July 1950 by Dorothy Ross (these 33 sheets were microfilmed instead of the 982 ICR's (2 sided for a total of 1964 images - not microfilmed). Note that ICr's do included place of birth while the punch key ready sheets do not. The sheets are punch key ready as columns 9 (race), 10 (sex), and12 (marital status) have numbers instead of words. 9) race: 1-White, 2-Negro, 3-Amercian Indian, 4-Japanese, 5-Chinese, 6-Filipino, 7-Other. 10) sex: 1-male, 2-female. 12) marital status: 1-married, 2-widowed, 3-divorced, 4-seperated, 5-never married. The cadets are listed as White (908), Negro (5), Japanese (1), Chinese (1), Filipino (66), or Other (Hawaiian) (1); male; and never married.

Stumbling block 1) Sheets 3-35 are not family units, but cadets housed in dormitories. Some indexed surnames are linked to a different surname listed below them on the sheet. Changing one surname changes the other. I have stopped attempting to edit these surmanes in the index. An example of this is found on sheet 8 lines 2-4; line 2 William R Woody is correct, but line 3 Carl M Wright and line 4 Ruben D Lezcano are listed as have the surname of Woody. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6XYQ-TJMF https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6XYQ-YHQ3 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6XYQ-TN1B

Stumbling block 2) Sheets 29 and 35 are linked to images of sheets 28 and 34. Due to this error no edits have been allowed for either sheet. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHN-PQHW-9DS7

Could these 2 stumbling blocks be addressed? I thank you for your time and consideration.

As to the surname editing problem, this problem is known by the software engineers. See responses in another post.

1- William Woody, Walter Shostak, and Ruben Lezcano have their own names.

2- You can report that there are errors in the Document Information for sheets 28/29 and 34/35. You can also report that the wrong sheet is listed for sheet 19 using the following steps:

    • Click EDIT on the record (such as those for Indatecio Y Galicinao or Donald M McLean)
    • Click on the Feedback tab, usually on the left-hand side of the screen.
    • Choose an emoji.
    • Enter the error or issue with the record in the box below the emojis.
    • Click Submit.

For those listed who have numbers for the columns gender, race, or marital status: You can enter the race and gender by clicking the pencil to the side of Essential Info and marital status is found in Additional Fields.
