Well, it's happening again. This batch is missing every other image in the reference images.

We all know the phrase: "easier said than done." That surely applies here.

I've gone through my technique for this batch. Using "About Batch" we find that the "index" to the Batch image is 004818497_02782. This means that the batch image is image # 2782 in the film Group #4818497. So if you follow the technique, you will find that there are 21 films in this group, with varying numbers of images in each film. Film #2782 in the Group is film # 2782-2778=4 in the 20th film.

Here it is, from the Film.

Here are the 5 images to its right (reference images +1 through +5

    image.png

Here are the 3 images to its left (reference images -1 through -3)

Obviously, we've hit the beginning of the film.

Ideally, FS will fix this problem of missing reference images, and will also make reference images available to those people looking at a shared batch and trying to help someone index or review it correctly. However, if you want to, you can work around it using the above technique.

    Hi Jerry.

You’re welcome. Yes, it’s the software, not the images. This has been a problem for well over a year, maybe two years. It’s one of my New Year’s wishes that they get it fixed in 2023.

While they are “in the neighborhood” - I hope they once again give Shared Batch viewers (I.e. helpers) the ability to see the reference images. We had it forever. Accessing those reference images is essential for giving fully informed answers to questions.

    Good luck.

This is a known chronic intermittent problem with the reference image system. FS should fix it once and for all. Try a different browser or wait a day or two. Evidently it can heal on its own, hopefully before your batch expires.

if you don’t want to wait, below is a link to a workaround that should allow you to finish your work. It looks complicated, but once you try it, it’s not that hard. The first link mentioned works “as is” if your batch is from a group on a single film. However, if your batch image is from a group that’s on multiple films, then you need to do some simple arithmetic to determine the correct film and image number on that film to ind your batch image. The explanation after the embedded link shows you how. Once you find your batch image, the reference images are the 5 images before and after your batch image.

@Mirevo You can't see it with a single picture. As you step through the images, the page numbers go 30, 32, 34, 36.

    @John Empoliti

Yes. I've had batches that have this problem -- but it gets fixed after a few days. They really need to figure out why it does happen. On one project, it was every third image missing. Weird.

Here are the +1 to +5 reference images with the Gamma Correction changed.

    Likewise for the Batch Image

Likewise for the -1 reference image.

Thanks, John. That's exactly what I needed. Now I can submit the batch.

So the problem is obviously not in the images but in the code that FS serves them up with. Hopefully, they'll get it fixed soon. In the meantime, I'll become good at what you have demonstrated -- cuz I'm sure this'll happen again.

BTW - I used the great, free, powerful program IrfanView to assemble these displays.

Hmmm. Interesting. I went to school with the guy who developed that.
