My Contributions, Private People not working

@Dana Repouille Interesting. That sounds like a bug unless Living people you contributed actually 1) weren't Living at the time you added them OR 2) Deceased after the time you added them and somehow are still listing in your private Living space.
All of the people on my Private People list are still showing Living. I cannot duplicate this apparent bug.
Doubtless you will receive the comment - be careful about entering Living people information...

I asked my wife a few weeks ago to duplicate the problem on her laptop using her FS account, and she did, so this must be a bug for all users.

The list of Private People will display both living and deceased people because Private People do not need to be deceased.
To determine, however, if you have run into some type of a bug or if things are working properly, please do the following. Check the first six deceased Private People on your list by going to their profile pages. How many of them are marked Confidential like this?
If all of them are, then the list is functioning properly because Confidential people are also private and will appear on your list.
If none of them are, then something strange is going on.
If all of them are confidential but none of them should be for any reason you can see, then that is a completely different problem that you will have to post here for a moderator to see to pass on to the right team to get the confidential flag removed.

OK, I see now. I have 13 Confidential deceased persons in my Private People list, and they appear at the top of the list. Twelve of these persons were born in the Middle East, and the other person was incorrectly marked as having died in Afghanistan (I believe she died in Maine).
So I assume FamilySearch automatically marks a person as Confidential if they were born or died in the Middle East. I had no idea that was a thing. Thank you for the tip.
If I had known about this, I would not have created these person records.

I often work on family lines that are unrelated to me, so it is quite possible that I will create a person record for a person who was born in the Middle East, and appears on a US Federal Census record. If FamilySearch automatically marks such records as Confidential Persons, then they will only be visible by me, and of no use to the living descendent I may be trying to help. In such a case, I need to remember to become a Helper for that person, so they may see the Confidential Person in their private space.

I have yet to encounter a sensible explanation of who exactly "Confidential" status is supposed to protect, and from exactly what, but until/unless FS gets rid of this nonsense, I suggest never entering a location in the Middle East. Put the details in the reason statement instead. If you can, delete the existing confidential profiles and re-create them without the "offending" conclusions.

Since when did politics start making any sense?

Well, I just created a new living person (marked living) and he did NOT show up in My Contributions under Private People, he showed up under My Changes. Under My Changes he is, in fact, marked "Living".

Thread comment: I was unaware or had forgotten that Confidential people also appeared in My Contributions> Private People - I guess because I haven't contributed any - learned something new.
@Gordon Collett I don't know. But I'd prefer @Julia Szent-Györgyi not suggesting to circumvent whatever rules have obviously been established for some reason. If someone died somewhere - and the record says that - I will enter that as the place and not put it under Notes.
I would prefer knowing why people are marked Confidential by FamilySearch -and the way to do that is to contact them...
@Gail Swihart Watson what is the PID? If Living he shouldn't be able to be seen by others...

genthusiast I didn't say my living person was being seen by anyone that shouldn't see it. I said, in agreement, that it is displayed incorrectly in My Contributions. It is a private person record not showing up in my Private People list. ie, list is indeed buggy.

@Gail Swihart Watson And I said: If the Living person you just added is not showing up in your Private People (yes a bug - unless it shows up after a period of time - which I am unaware of and don't think that's right) - then that PID should be visible by others (not Private)? Living = Private - > Not Private = visible PID?
For example, I just created a living person as well. The person immediately shows up in My Contributions as the latest person in My Changes (as they should) but they ALSO immediately appear in My Contributations> Private People list too (just search for them and bang they are there).
If they are not there for you - then submit a BUG: report.

genthusiast No, I do not get that behavior. My Contributions>My Changes has this living person listed. My Contributions>Private People does not list him. I went to another browser, from Edge to Chrome, and the display is the same. He appears under My Changes but not Private People.

@Gail Swihart Watson Then that is a BUG. But are your sure they aren't listed ...? After creating the person I searched for the Name of that person in the Search field - when on the Private People tab and they were there. It might be that you need to search for them - your list Options might be set in a different order - you need to search for them. Option> Name should be alphabetical...by first name is what I see - so the person will not by default be listed at the top of the list as the My Changes sort by most recent does ...

genthusiast, I am positive he is not listed under Private People. The most recent change I made to a private person is shown as Dec 22, 2020 under Private People. The most recent change listed under My Changes is dated today and is this living person. I would upload screenshots, but knowing my luck, all you would see is the blue pending.

genthusiast OK, now I see what you are saying. Yes, the private people are not listed in order that they were contributed to. Sigh. The new record is buried down the alphabetical list. I guess there is no bug if they intended for you to not be able to see the work you have done by date of the contribution. Why doesn't it display like My Changes?

I would guess they figured that when a living person was created was not a very important piece of information and no one would ever need the names arranged in that order. They don't list at all the date of the most recent edit to a living person, probably because that would be found on the My Changes list. They did include the most important sort order which is birth date so you can quickly find who on your list of living is over 110 years old now.
Checking that, I see that I have a living person who was born in 1911. I should do something about that record.
