Attaching Sources

I noticed that all pertinent information contained in an attachment is not automatically added to the person to whom the source is attached. For example, when attaching birth record for GJC6-5TR, birth date and place was more accurate than existing data, but attaching record did not carry the more accurate information to the record in FS. I had to go back and enter the more accurate information manually. Shouldn’t FS ask me if I want to move the more accurate information to the person’s existing record (much like it does for adding a new residence from a census), instead of me needing to enter that information manually?

No, actually, it shouldn't, in my opinion. The reason for this is visibility: in Source Linker, you cannot see all of the details, such as a reason statement that points out that the "more accurate date" from your record is actually an error. If you moved the new conclusion into place, the old, correct one would disappear into the change log, along with its explanation.

Unless Source Linker is completely revised so that one can see all of the existing details of the profile, I think it is an excellent thing that it cannot replace existing conclusions. And no, I have no clue how to even begin arranging a full-visibility Linker on the screen.

Making you take the extra step to go and edit the information helps slow bad changes. Too many people are click happy and do not read the reason statements or look at sources. Just look at the marriage information section, where you have people moving every marriage record event over (they do not see it is a license and not the event itself), sometimes just a date when a date and location is present. We need to take the extra steps to verify correct information and enter it, not just click it over and entering during the source attachment screen where you do not see everything about the person is not the best place to enter information
