Super Ugly: Updating surname in 1940 U.S. Census causes loss of indexed record

Today is the first that I've observed this issue. On this page:

Of the 1940 U.S. Federal census, there are found a husband and wife of Judson "Mone" (should be Moore), and wife P. Maude "Mone". I went through the normal steps of selecting Judson's record to edit, highlighting, updating the name, selecting "wrong in document", and then saving it. As usual, a prompt was displayed to update the surname for the other household member, P. Maude. I accepted this option.

As soon as I saved that change, the indexed entry for Maude *disappeared altogether*. It wasn't together with Judson when I attached the now-corrected record to his profile, and when I review the actual page (which has a list of the indexed names at the bottom to select), her name is completely gone from the index.

Tried to use your link but could not get passed the recurring 404 Error even though I'm signed-in. For added information did this happen while you were on the Old or New Person Page? I've not seen that happen before but that would be something that could be missed easily. Its been a couple of hours, is P Maude still missing? Anyone else having this issue? Can someone else get to that Index now and see if P Maude is missing from your view of the Index?

@Chas Howell, that style of link (which I don't know how people get) fails to resolve correctly from this forum. You have to manually go through and replace %3A with a colon. (You only have to go up to the question mark, though; in fact, it's safe to just delete everything after the ampersand.)

@Julia Szent-Györgyi you're correct. It's very interesting that the FS forum is pumping URLs through urlencode, but then their own systems can't read urlencoded paths. LOL

Is there a Data Admin that can look at this? Just as reported in the original post, it appears that wife P Maude has been removed from the FS Index on the 1940 US Census by Brad's edit of the family's surname. But when I do a Search for P Maude Mone 1889 NJ I see her name listed but her corresponding record is not found??? (see image above)

@Brad Felmey Sorry you have been waiting so long for a resolution to the problem that occurred when you edited Judson Moore's name in the 1940 US Census. We've been seeing this occasionally when the name of a head of household is edited. We will add your example to our report of the issue. We hope that a solution will be found soon.

Meanwhile, you can use the census image as a source for Judson's wife who has disappeared from the census. If you navigate to Judson's entry in the census index and click to view the original image, you can click Source Box at the top-right of the image viewer. From the source box, you can attache the census image as a source to P Maude. Here are some Help Center articles that can help you with the process:
