I had a question on strategies for figuring out cursive hand writing.

I have been indexing for awhile, but I wanted to get a much deeper understanding of how to piece together cursive handwriting.

If I have a batch that is difficult I start by looking through the entire page, finding words or names that I know for sure and then I study the letters in question to see how the scribe formed those letters. Then I go back to the beginning and start indexing. Sometimes part way through a page I will realize that a squiggle actually is something different than I thought so I go back and make corrections.

The Hand writing examples at the top of the page help get me headed in the right direction sometimes.

With some batches I find it almost impossible to tell the difference between 2 letters even after much practice. Do your best with practice it does get easier.🙂

    Hope this helps
