Unable to unmerge an incorrect merge

I am trying to unmerge an incorrect merge, but when I select "unmerge" and enter my reason statement I get a pop-up error saying "The restore request has failed. Please try again". I have cleared my cache and tried again but I am still getting this error. Is this a temporary technical glitch or do I need to recreate the incorrectly-merged person again if I cannot restore him?

Hi Welcome to Family Search Community and posting you question about unmerge. We have been doing some of these same actions and have not seen a problem.. If you would share the ID you are trying to unmerge, we can look further.

The most common reason I have run across for that message that the restore failed is that another merge is preventing it. This is my private theory based on my observations, but it seems that if the person to be restored has a relationship to a person who has been deleted in a merge, the restore fails unless that other deleted person is restored first so that the relationship can be restored. Poke around in the change log for the person you are trying to restore, see if there are some other people you need to restore first. You should be able to get this to work somehow.
