Language Template
I am in the new system today and the only thing I like about it is to link sources. I have already added "French" under "Language template". But when I want to link their birth certificate source to "Birth Name" (in the Alternate name section) I have to add the "Language template" of French again--a second time. So, I am having to had "French" twice. It is a waste of time to have to add it under "Birth Name" when I have already noted French under their name--which is the same as their birth name. Moreover, if I add a married name under the alternate name section and want to link a source, I have to add the "Language Template" as French a third time. When you have a million things to do and more French records to dig through, adding the same thing twice, even 3 times if married, is unnecessary. I think this is an easy fix and it should be sufficient to add "French" once. The person is French all the way though, birth name and married name.

The old pages work the same way. Having the option to change the name is for those ancestors of yours from France who emigrated somewhere else and took a name in a different language. The ability to have such a variety of name templates is relatively new. This means that all the existing names that were already present in Family Tree before those templates were installed all got set as English or Other. There is no pressing need to correct the language on all those old names unless you want to.
Adding new names is a different story, however. If you are on the Details page, old or new, and click on Add Alternate Name, it always defaults to the last name template that you used. The most recent name I created used the Norwegian template, so when I click Add Alternate Name, I see this:
It will always come up in Norwegian until I create a person with a different template.
If there is something else that seems to be happening as you are working adding sources, please explain further.

Forgive me I I am overstating things here, but I'm just trying to be clear. Here is a section of alternate name:
Note that all of these were entered in 2012. Before the language of the name could be specified. When I check each of them, they are all Other. The program cannot change all of them to Norwegian because it does not know if they are Norwegian or English or something else, even if I edit his main name and change it to Norwegian.

If I tag a source:
Whether or not I change the name here from Other to Norwegian or not, the other two names will not change, and should not because they may not be Norwegian, but when I click on Add Alternate Name, it will default to Norwegian because that is what I have been using.

I work with the language template for names a lot, but I'm afraid I don't understand what you're doing or where this language template is that you're needing to select.
I just linked several sources to an alternate name, and never needed to do anything to the name's language template. I even added another alternate name in a different language and tagged several sources to that, and other than selecting the new language on entry, the template didn't come up. I tried it from both directions: editing the alternate name and clicking Tag Sources, and opening a source on the Sources tab and clicking Add Tag.
(Also: I apologize if I've misunderstood what you wrote, but it sounds like you've added a name as a "birth name" under Other Information, even though it's identical to the person's name as entered under Vitals. You shouldn't ever need to do this. The Birth Name option is available under Other for those cases where a legal name change or similar circumstance means that the name under Vitals is not the person's birth name. In most circumstances, the name under Vitals is assumed to be the birth name, and nothing else needs to be entered about it.)

I think a lot of people may misunderstand the words, "Language Template". I now understand it means what template is needed to express certain characters in the name. At first I thought if my ancestor was german that I should use that template even though his was an Americanized name. This needs to be clarified.😕
