making corrections on previously indexed records

I received an email asking about correcting census record locations that have been incorrectly indexed. Do we have the capability to change the location of a census record when it has been indexed wrong? Apparently this man tried, but the correct location was not in the drop-down option so he could not standardize it. I have no idea how to help him.

Thanks.

Some record indexes can be corrected. It completely depends upon the collection. Please provide a link to the record.
