For general information, there are some features of FamilySearch that end up just not working on some mobile devices. If you are up to date with your device OS and have un-installed then re-installed the app, you have probably done the most of the options for having your device work for you.

It might depend on whether you have location ability turned on or off.

Location turned on on my tablet so that's not it. Luckily my very clever 17 year old granddaughter put some apps stored on my phone on to the SD?? card and I had room to install Family Tree on my phone then and that works perfectly. Not just me, my husband also has an Amazon Fire and it doesn't work on there either

I noticed that your post still included problems in the app on the Amazon Fire Tablet. Not sure if this will be of help for you but below you can see the supported operating system for Kindle. Hope this helps. We want to make sure that your question has been answered.
Kindle
- Operating system version Fire OS 6 or higher
- Amazon Appstore for Android
Minimum for the Family Tree mobile app
The Family Tree mobile app must run on a device that runs the following:
- Android: You must use Android 7.0 or higher. You must also use 3.3.0 or higher of the Family Tree mobile app.
- Apple: You must use iOS 11 or higher. You must also use version 3.6.7 or higher of the Family Tree mobile app.

No it doesn't help because that is precisely what I was trying to say. The wording relatives around me does not appear. I can do it on my mobile phone but not on my tablet

As an aside ...
I have an, "Android", 'Mobile' Phone, which has the "Mobile" Application version of 'FamilySearch' ...
[ With the latest versions of, the "Operating System"; and, the "Mobile" Application ... ]
I just took a look at, the "Mobile" Application, on my 'Mobile' Phone ...
Interesting ...
Your "Image", is not ONLY, missing, "Relatives Around Me"; but, is ALSO missing "Map My Ancestors" ...
So, is yours, the "Operating System" version of "Fire OS 6"; or, higher, for 'Amazon' "Kindle"?
IF, it is; THEN, perhaps, those, "Relatives Around Me"; and, "Map My Ancestors", are not included with the 'Amazon' "Kindle" version of 'FamilySearch'.
Just a thought.
