Neuchâtel, Switzerland - Indexed record improvement
Hi,
I am so grateful for the new indexed record that are available for this region of Switzerland, Neuchâtel.
It is especially helpful when they are accessed from the family genealogy centers.
From home, it is a little different. Following is the content of the record on line. How can I determine if this is the record of my 6th great grandfather. There is no cities and no other information that can confirm it is the right person. I am thinking of people that do not know about the family genealogy center or do not have access to one. I know there are privacy arrangement with Switzerland, is there any possibility of improving the index data just one step further: ie city or canton. Thank you and warm salutations from a Swiss lady in the States

I am not connected with FamilySearch
The URL for the record you have shown in your image is https:// where in Switzerland thi /ark:/61903/1:1:6NQ2-SZQP
The image above shows the heading Document Information. If you click on that in the record you will see Digital Folder Number 008012430 Image Number 00016
If you then go to the Catalog Search https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog and search for that number, you get several results, https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&query=%2Bfilm_number%3A8012430 . For image 00016 the most likely is item 1 Registres de l'eglise réformée de La Sagne (Neuchâtel), 1682-1875, and the notes say "Includes La Corbatière, Miéville, Marmoud, Le Crêt de La Sagne, and other neighboring towns".
For me, a non LDS Church member, I can only view this microfilm at a Family History Center or Affiliate Library, so it is not easy to check the actual image.
The problem is that unless you are familiar with FamilySearch procedures you would have no idea that this further Searching is necessary to try and find out where in Switzerland this record originates from.
I completely agree with your suggestion that data about cities should be added to the display results. One easy way of doing this would be to have a link to the catalog record for 8012430, including the item number on the microfilm, under Document information.
Over the years FamilySearch seems very loath to make this sort of information more immediately apparent. I think there must be a view in senior management that this type of information is unimportant. In a discussion about indexing records from India, it was apparent that no city information was being indexed, even though the records came from an area in India with covered roughly a third of India, and places could be thousands of kilometres from each other. I cannot understand why this information is not being indexed, or displayed with results.
