Confusion

I am indexing US, Virginia—Vital Records, 1715–1901 [Part B][M3TS-9S7], a birth record and, I am perplexed once again. It is saved for someone to look at. There is a column for children's names and a DOB, then the parents with a DOB and the then the owner with a DOB. I am using the first column on the left next to the child's name for the DOB.

When I get down to 1857 there is no child and no DOB but have parent's names and owners. Then go down a couple of lines and then there are children with no parent's but has owners. In doing previous Birth records, either the parents don't have a surname, or the child doesn't have a surname, which I can see. Then there are times the child's and parent's surname are the same. In this situation the child surname is not the same as the parent nor of the owner.

When you go down to 1857 on left child's column and then go to their parent's it changes to 1859 and then if you go over the owner's column the is a date goes back to 1857 with no owner name.

If you also go down to 1859 it happens to do the same thing as above.

Are these all just children with a DOB except when a parent is listed next to them? On the second page there are no parent or owners. This one really has me stumped.

Thank you in advance.

This batch is an index of the records that are found later on the film roll. I did not check the Project Instructions carefully (due to time constraints) - to see if the Index should be indexed.

If you take the first child name in the index 30 July 1853 page 1...

    https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/image-details?imageGroupNumbers=4000281&rmsId=M9CQ-PWF&imageIndex=3&singleView=true

contains this record and lists the father and mother. So you have to take each column of this index at face value - it appears - each column appears to be indexing a separate record.
