Hi I wonder if someone can help

I have been searching the 1861 census for my family in Morriston/Llangyfelach Swansea and cannot find any members of this branch of the family. They are on the 1851 and 1871

David Jones b 1794 Llangyfelach was a weaver in 1851

Hannah Jones b 1806 Llangyfelach A drapers assistant

David Jones b 1829

William b 1835

Jane b 1839

Daniel b 1842

Hannah b 1844

Ann b 1847

Joseph b 1850

I understand some might not be living there in 1861

But cannot find any of them

    @JulieFeathers

I assume you have found the 14 results for a David Jones, born 1839-45 period and resident at Llangyfelach in 1861 - see https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&q.birthLikeDate.from=1839&q.birthLikeDate.to=1845&q.givenName=david&q.givenName.exact=on&q.residencePlace=Llangyfelach%2A&q.residencePlace.exact=on&q.surname=jones&q.surname.exact=on&f.collectionId=1493747.

I have not examined these records, assuming you have already discounted these.

Having established the general location (Llangyfelach) has been indexed, there is still the possibility of the page (which includes this family) being missed in either the filming or indexing process. If the family had moved away from Llangyfelach during this period they could be very difficult to find. Firstly, there is the surname problem (probably worse in Wales than having a relative named Smith), then the fact that their birthplaces would have likely been spelled incorrectly, or even just recorded as being in "Glamorganshire".

Try checking different websites, as they (Ancestry, Find My Past, etc.) have their own projects, so if missed in indexing from one website's collection might still be found in another.

Finally, I have not found it unusual to share your experience - i.e., a family missing, without any fathomable reason from a census return, but being easily found in the censuses either side of that year.

I wish you well in your search, but think you might have some difficulty here.

@Cedar Kedar, would you be able to help locate this family in Wales in the 1861 census?
