Branches of tree disappear
We have just discovered that branches of our tree back in the early 1700's have disappeared. Can not find people that we know exist. Does not appear that a merge or something caused the problem. Hoping it's a glitch in the program but need to talk with someone to get this fixed soon before people start to think they need to add new records.

It's hard to be specific without know ing any details, but more often then not, it is where someone makes a change to one of your ancestors and replaces a name with another that is not linked to your ancestors.
Find the last name in that line that you are certain you entered yourself. Go to the Person page and where it says Latest Changes on the right hand side, click Show All. You will see a list of all the changes that have been made to this person, who made the changes and when they were made. If significant changes were made that you cannot reconcile, you have the opportunity to rectify these by following the instructions in the Knowledge Article below or similar ones relating to restoring names.
It may be that you need to examine several names before discovering where the changes were made, but if you need further help, please post again.

Thanks Barry
Already tried looking at the history. The thing that I don't understand is how we can't even find the missing people in the database. The ID for the person that several people are using is L6FJ-MRK for Hezekiah Atwood (1727-1809). At first I thought I would try and just add his parents Josiah Atwood and Bathsheba Lattimer, but then realized that the Josiah I wanted did not exist - there was a record but incomplete, so I deleted that father. I know through other contacts that Hezekiah's brother Zedediah has the same problem - I can't even find him in the database or any of Hezekiah's siblings. If you can take a look at this, for us it would be appreciated. I can provide you many other names if that would help.
I just found out from someone else that our Thomas Atwood MMSX-CLS is now showing up as a Boardman, but all the sources belong to Thomas. Maybe that will help.

I don't know if it would be better or worse to be a glitch in the system. Apparently the changes to your Thomas Atwood (now Nathaniel Boardman Sr were made on 1 Oct 2022 by June990. You can see the specific name change made if you click to Edit the name and then choose See All changes...that will allow you to see all the changes to just the name. I started looking through all the people that were changed, and as you come down the tree, you find that all of these changes come down to Sarah Buell Boardman and her husband Samuel Chauncey Cowles.
I think the problem stems from a merge that occurred Sep 14, 2017 when cheryltarbet1 merged Samuel Chauncey Cowles MCCV-12D and Samuel Brainard Cowles KCR3-ZWH. It appears that made a single man Samuel Chauncey Cowles who was married to two women, Sarah Buell Boardman and Sabra Atwood the marriage dates are only 1 year apart.
It looks like this June990 changed Sabra Atwood and continued up that tree changing everything to match what she had on Sarah Buell Boardman. There is a full duplicate tree of the Boardmans, except the single line that she changed... I mean, Sabra Atwood (now appears as Sarah Buell Boardman) K8L8-8QY is the only difference between the family of Levi Boardman (formerly Hosea Atwood) L712-5ZT & Rebecca Boardman K6MH-Z72 (who June990 replaced Hosea Atwood's wife, Lorena Cowles K2F1-SJD with) and Sarah Buell Boardman K423-YH2 daughter of Levi Boardman K6M2-6H2 & Rebecca Boardman K6MH-Z72.
I recommend starting by restoring Samuel Brainard Cowles KCR3-ZWH and make sure to mark him as Not-a-Match to Samuel Chauncey Cowles MCCV-12D (check other merges to see if they should be to Brainard or Chauncey). Then you should be able to restore Sabra Atwood K8L8-8QY's real name. Then restore her father's name and her correct mother and siblings and keep working up from there.
Hopefully, this is enough for you to get started restoring all your people, if not, message me directly and I will work through it with you.
You might also contact June990 and ask if she/he noticed that Sarah Buell Boardman K423-YH2 was already in FamilySearch and that her whole tree was already there. Be gentle, though, she/he was clearly building on a mistake (the merge of the two Samuel Cowles) that occurred in 2017.

Whilst I've been sleeping (on the other side of the world), AnneLoForteWillson has been very busy looking at the details you posted, and I would wholeheartedly agree with her findings and suggestions. It will indeed, be a long process, but I'm sure you'll get there in the end.
When you have made your corrections and amendments, can I suggest that you make a copy of your part of the tree in one of the many supported programmes that are available. Ctrl and Click on this link: https://partners.familysearch.org/solutionsgallery/s/ to go to the Solutions Gallery, and scroll right down until you come to the heading FamilySearch Solutions Gallery and then select more. This will open up 86 supported applications such as Ancestry, Roots Magic, Find My Past, Ancestral Quest, My Heritage, Legacy, and other programmes, all of which enable you to build a duplicate tree in their programme which cannot be altered or changed by anyone other than you. That way, if anyone should make any changes to your part of the FamilySearch Family Tree, you will be able to restore things more easily.
Be sure to post again if you have any further questions.
