Preserve the family tree
I have found that various persons change my family tree because they think their version is correct. It would be more than helpful for Family Search to alert tree owners that a change is proposed before it is changed. I have now lost a huge branch which appears to be due to someone interfering. Let us know BEFORE such things happen so that the right changes are made

You can go to "Latest Changes" and reverse changes made by others if you are sure those changes are wrong. I was frustrated at first with all of the information others had added to my family tree which I knew were wrong. So, I made myself the "Sheriff" for our tree, messaging people who had made changes and giving them a chance to make corrections themselves. Most did. If they did not, I reversed the changes myself. Be sure that you include any and all sources/reasons for your information/corrections.
The adding of incorrect information on my tree is now quite rare. And since the tree is now far more accurate, others have become much more interested in contributing and adding great information to our family history (i.e. pics and other Memories). I have also 'met' a lot of new and wonderful family members through this process.
You can be notified of changes which have been made by clicking "Follow" for any individual you want to monitor changes for.

I have found that people are MUCH less likely to change things incorrectly if I am extra thorough in my sources, notes, and discussions. If there are important things that are easily confused or facts easy to miss, I have sometimes used the life sketch to make it more clear. It also helps if people are combined two people into one or mixing people up to make both people in the tree with notes and sources to avoid confusion. So often I look at someone else's tree and it's not obvious to me why they came to the conclusions they did, though it's clear to them. Other people are looking at my tree the same way, they may not understand my reasoning and conclusions unless I make them very clear.

It is an open collaborative tree so they do not have to alert you before changes are made, but if you follow profiles then you can get alerted after changes are made and review them for accuracy. I have found when there are good sources and reason statements, there are fewer errors and changes made by others.

In addition to the suggestions above, I strongly recommend having a copy of your tree elsewhere (on a website and/or family tree program) where it cannot be tampered with. You cannot download your tree from Family Tree as such but family tree programs offer the facility to "collect" your tree from Family Tree.

- right - there is no "download option"
- But programs like RootsMagic - can download the tree for you - I assume that is what you are referring to. Its a nice option - I have even downloaded trees of 10,000 or more people.
