I am a brand new center director and our printer quit printing altogether but we have no new cartridge. How do I get one?
Do you actually know that the toner is out, or did the printer just stop working? Is it a Lexmark printer? Our FHC Lexmark printer has had problems in the past. When it doesn't print, I unplug it (from the wall), wait for several minutes, and then plug it back in. It will then run through the boot up again. Any existing print job in the queue will automatically print or you may have to send the print job to the printer again. At one time, I had to do this procedure twice in the same day.
If you don't know how to check the toner level, you should call FHC Tech Support. They will tell you how to check it. You will automatically be sent a toner cartridge only when the level is 2% or lower. It will be sent to the address you have set up in the CDOL, which should NOT be the FHC address. You are new so you will need Tech Support 1-866-406-1830 to help you.
Thank you so much Pamela! Your suggestion worked like a charm and we are back in the printing/scanning business!
One other item for future reference and for others looking at this question. Your printer should automatically order a new toner cartridge once it gets very low (I believe the 2% figure above is correct from my recollection), and it will be sent to the address listed for equipment to your FHC (NOT the Church building). Make sure you update that in the CDOL and with FamilySearch Support so it goes to the right person. And make sure your printer is always ON, even though you are to turn OFF your computers whenever you close your FHC for the day. The printer should be powered on 24/7.
DO NOT go out and purchase a new toner cartridge - the ones we automatically get are much higher capacity than the ones you'd likely purchase locally for "normal" use in the Lexmark printers. You'll get the proper cartridge and capacity automatically through Staples if your address is correctly listed for shipping. You don't have to do anything to get a replacement cartridge ordered - it's all automatic from the printer, through Salt Lake, and out to Staples for shipment. It's billed to your stake.
