Need a better system of recording direct relatives

This situation has happened to me several times now. It's getting pretty frustrating. Here's a synopsis of this past month:

My grandmother died. In order to be "connected" to my dead ancestors, I had to create a fake grandmother while she was still living, as did all of my cousins. When she died, we suddenly had several grandmothers popping up. My cousins filled these with pictures and memories. Two weeks later, the Ward Clerk recorded the death, and now we have the "real" grandmother. We now have multiple duplicates of the same person and have to merge everyone in order to have correct records.

It seems this is very counter intuitive to keeping the records of the Church-especially the Temple- correct.

Can we please be linked to our real grandparents by MRN? Obviously we already are-because the relative finder works- but if we could actually see our real living parents and grandparents we could post memories without needing to merge everything again later with the risk of corrupting something important or special.
