Any other options to contact individuals.
I'm really struggling with people not responding to messages via Family Search.
If we have been unsuccessful in contacting individuals through the FS messaging to get an issue resolved, is it possible to create a case and try to have FS contact them directly to resolve it? I understand there is a way to report abuse and this is not trying to address any website abuse, so I'm looking for another options.
Lot's of people don't show any contact information, and so messaging through FS is my only option. Given that I rarely get a response from anyone that I message through the FS messaging system, I'm hoping to get some support from FS on this. Maybe FS can see if they can contact them through their direct means of contact to see if we can get a resolution.
Have you tried contacting FamilySearch Support through the Report Abuse button? It's in Tools on the right side, below Latest Changes.
I've had some success with that method.0
Do you use that even if it's not abuse? This isn't about abuse.0
Do you use that even if it's not abuse?
No. Do not use the Report Abuse button for this.
Once you have messaged and there is no response, feel free to make whatever changes seem appropriate. In fact, feel free to make them even without first messaging anyone. If another contributor is watching, and has an issue with your change, and cares enough, they will change it back and/or message you.
For what it is worth, I've received replies to some messages only years later.2
Sorry, Brea, I presumed you had an abuse problem, based on your original message.0
This isn't about making changes to the tree. It's about working together to get the temple work done that they have had reserved for 2-4 years now. I just didn't want to mention that specifically and have the discussion then being focused on current reservation policies, which is a whole other topic.0
I wasn't talking about the Wiki.0
Sorry, I forget that FS has an actual wiki, so that is confusing. I should have just said tree. I often describe FS Tree as a wiki tree, and forgot to add the tree. :-)0
Okay, now that we understand the issue is someone reserved profiles for temple work 2+ years ago and hasn't done the work, this is something the moderators here can escalate behind the scenes. So I will use the little Flag to request a moderator's attention.
Edit to add: Done. @Brea Mefford you should get a PM from a moderator.1
So, it sounds like that little flag next to Quote is to get moderators to comment? I thought it was for inappropriate comments. But maybe it's both.
My experience about talking about ordinances being reserved longer than 2 years is that the moderators say there is nothing we can do because there are currently no expiration dates until the all of the Temples are open. So, I figure my only avenue at this point is to somehow work with the people who have the ordinances reserved.0
Yes, that little flag requests the attention of moderators for any reason, not just for inappropriate comments.0
I'm sorry we can't make people respond. It is really frustrating. I've had mixed experiences with that. Some do and some don't.
I did a little investigation on our reservation expiration process and I don't have much and I'm sorry it's not the best news. Covid really put everything into flux. As you already know, the expiration processes for reservations were paused with the shutdown of temples. This process hasn't been turned back on yet as there are temples in some areas that are not fully open yet. We realize that this has caused some reservations to be over four years old. I can tell you that this process is currently under review and will be back in place soon (not sure what soon means, though). I will try to keep on this and update this part of the community there is more to share. Hang in there!
Thank you for looking into this issue. I appreciate you for letting us know that it is being reviewed. Hopefully, some sort of adjustment will be made soon. I too have sent message to persons who have reservations that are 4+ years old, with no response from them. However, I do have plenty of other names that I am doing the ordinances for while I wait for things to change. :)0
We can't make people respond, but it would be nice if we could require them to give their email and phone contact information if they are going to make temple reservations. We need other options to contact other than the messaging system.0
