Video department or a separate non-profit for screening videos
I wanted to find out how to upload videos onto family search. I searched it in the community and many others had asked the same question. It seems there are at least two problems: videos may take up too much data and there needs to be a screening department. Well, what if there was a separate department? What if there was a body of people responsible for video links?
One option is of volunteers or knowledgeable people checking all the potential videos for content before they are uploaded to the website. The other way is if you have volunteers going out and interviewing people for life stories or videos of the family together. This way, we go to individuals and say we can upload a video for future generations to see and have control of what content is uploaded.
Some ways to accomplish this could be by creating separate links through Youtube, Instagram or other social media. As long as the body or volunteers have made sure the content is up to standards so that they are acceptable.
I also thought perhaps this does not need to be an internal department at all. A separate website and non-profit could be created strictly for videos for families to upload content and provide links to a new website in family search. For example, while looking through a profile of an ancestor, let's say her name is Sally Smith, there is a place to either upload videos directly, a link to this new website, or a link to a social media page like youtube given that the video has already been screened for content. This entity does not need to be created by anyone from family search, but it can be. I was even thinking of doing so myself, but I would want to do it in a way that is supportive to family search in every way possible.
These are just some ideas, but I would like to know if anything is sounding plausible to family search. It does seem like video content could be a whole extra dimension that could make the experience of learning about ancestors even more exciting. Please let me know what you think or if there is anyone I can talk to about my ideas in a direct email or phone call, etc.
Thank you,
