Verification of a Sealing in 1903
I'm trying to verify that there was a sealing ordinance done by my grandfather, John Hamilton Freebairn Sr., in 1903 to Clara Louisa Wrathall.
His dates of birth and death and his FS ID are: 1877–1953 • KWCQ-VY7. These are Clara's: 27 February 1881 – 20 July 1902 • KFVQ-FT2.
The sealing would have been done in 1903, by him for himself, to Clara Louisa Wrathall who died in 1902. Yes, I know it's a strange thing that he was supposedly sealed to a woman who had died and I know some things happened back then that wouldn't be allowed today, but there is information on her website that suggests it.
On Clara's "Effective Ordinances" page, it shows she was sealed to John Hamilton Freebairn a year after she died. John was taking out his endowment prior to leaving on his mission to England.
I'm his granddaughter and to my knowledge I have never heard of this before. It seems very strange that nothing was ever said to me by any persons who knew him or is indicated on any of our genealogy. I've always known that John had a first wife, Gertrude Sheets. She bore 7 children and died.
A year or two later, John married my grandmother, Sarah Eliza Russell Freebairn, his 2nd wife who bore 5 children, one being my father, Samuel Russell Freebairn. Sarah did tons of genealogy and there is nothing in her genealogical work (which I have) that even hints of this sealing. Also, I've never heard anything over the years from anyone in our family said about my grandfather ever having another wife before he married Gertrude, which he did within a year after his mission ended. I am seeking the verification that there is a sealing ordinance document showing this to be true. Thanks for your help!
