This was changed some years ago, I guess people started living longer. Assuming you are related you can reserve ordinances earlier, you just need permission from either the spouse, parent, sibling or adult child.

Just wanted to point out that the (shouted) phrase "ordinances for the dead" gave me mental whiplash: rules for zombies?

(Hint: if you're using the word "ordinances" to mean something other than city parking regulations, then your topic probably belongs in the Temple category, where non-LDS like me will never bother to go look.)

Right, @lesliejeanmoreland1, Julia Szent-Gyorgyi is correct, this type question is appropriate for the Temple Category. You will likely get more complete and informative answers there too.

It was changed because far too many people were being disappointed, annoyed, angry, frustrated, saddened, crushed, offended, (take your pick of adjective) on finding that work was being completed for their grandparents by either 20th cousins or non-relatives , neither of whom were following church guidelines and had no business submitting those names.

@lesliejeanmoreland1, No, this site is not related in any way to FB,

You can do the temple work for your relatives born over 110 years ago.

You can do the temple work for your relatives born within the last 110 years if you are their parent, child, sibling or spouse. If you are not one of those people you can still do the temple work if you have permission from either their spouse, sibling, adult child or parent.

See this help article 858 "How do I request ordinances for an ancestor who was born in the last 110 years?" On FamilySearch Family Tree, Click the Circle with the "?" question mark in it Then click "Help Center" Then put 858 in the Search Box and enter.

Yes, step-grandparents would be considered as your relative and you will need to apply the same 110 year rule to them. If you think there are missing ordinances you can request FamilySearch to check it out. When you are looking at your grandmother, does the system alert you that there may be duplicates for her? Sometime the missing ordinances are attached to a duplicate that needs to be merged.
