1950 Census Oddity- FS Index & Ancestry Index Of Same Census Sheet Contradict
Please refer to Thelma Ann Butler (LVP2-2VC) Research Help for 1950 Census. Thelma's Marital Status has been indexed in error as Widowed. Review of the image finds her as Wife/Married. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHK-9QH7-TJG5
A review of the same Census sheet in Ancestry finds her correctly indexed as Wife/Married. https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/62308/images/43290879-Oregon-103941-0002
How is this possible? Why don't the indexes match? I thought FS and Ancestry collaborated on indexing the 1950 Census. Did the Artificial Intelligence at Ancestry get it right, and the human review at FS err?
Also frustrating is in FS only 4 fields of the 1950 Census index can be edited, yet in Ancestry 19 fields can be edited.
Please advise.

@DavidNCraig, that is a frustration for sure. Human error for sure with a reviewer with FamilySearch. Ancestry has done the AI index When a state is finished with the review process in FamilySearch, it will go back to Ancestry and then be published.
It is frustrating right now that FamilySearch only has the four fields to edit. Soon there will be more options for editing, so we look forward to that!
For now, when you attach a record in FamilySearch, you can write a note for anything that is incorrect so others can see. You could also attach the Ancestry.com page for others to see and verify. When we have the tools to edit, then we can go back and edit those fields.
We appreciate your concern! Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
