Does the mill complex cited in 1840's birth registrations for Alsheim still exist?
My great-grandfather was born in Alsheim in 1848, his older brothers were also born there, in 1846 and 1843. All their birth registrations cite the family home as being: house #183 1/5 on the street in front of the mill gateway, which presumably referred to row-housing for workers at the referenced mill. I would like to know where that mill complex was located in Alsheim, and whether it is still in existence or has it been converted to a different use?

Are you talking about Alsheim near Worms in Rheinhessen, or Alsheim in the Palatinate?

The Alsheim I am talking about is located 63 km south and west of Frankfurt via the B9 highway (per Google maps). I believe that is in the Palatinate.

According to this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alsheim this Alsheim belongs to the combined community of Eich in the Alzey-Worms district, formerly in Rheinhessen.
I don't know what the original record said that you referenced. AAccording to this TV newsclip the mill street is well known in Alsheim, but the mill that gave it its name hasn't existed for a long time. https://www.swr.de/landesschau-rp/hierzuland/die-muehlstrasse-in-alsheim/-/id=100766/did=16998042/nid=100766/13406p0/index.html

Thank you for the two links. The first one refers to the Alsheim where my great-grandfather was born in 1848 (as I noted in my original query of July 31). The second link connects to the interesting German language TV clip stating, as you noted, that Mill Street is one of Alsheim's oldest streets, and that the subject mill is no longer in existence. I do not know German, but used Google Translate to convert all the German text given for the TV clip into English, and did not find any description or other information regarding the referenced mill. Is it possible there is some further information about the mill given in the German audio of the TV clip?

I have followed-up on Baerbel's link to the German TV clip by doing an on-line Google Maps search for a street named Muhlstrasse in Alsheim, and after finding same, then looking for businesses/facilities located on that street which also had websites with an email address provided. I then submitted a message on 22 Oct 2018 to the email contact given at the St. Bonifatius website. In that message I first gave my English language version of my query, followed by the German language translation (via Google Translate) of my original English language version. I have two questions regarding that email message: 1) should I have given the German language translation first, followed by my original English language version, and 2) are there any suggestions why I have not received a response in two months? Thank you.

Perhaps the recipient intended to answer, but didn't get to it. Or, especially if providing a good answer would require the recipient to do research , they may simply have brushed it off. I have received answers to queries as long as 1 1/2 years after sending them.
You could try sending your message again; this time with the German request first, and then the English version.

I took another look at the video for which I had sent you the link. It looks liike the image at around 3.03 minutes could be a photo of the mill that no longer exists. That image is followed by one of the mill account book with some numbers, but unfortunately no date.

lApparently the community archive of Alsheim is now part of the holding of the Stadtarchiv Worms. You can contact that archive at stadtarchiv[at]worms.de. My guess is that's where the TVpeople found the photo. Perhaps the archivist can tell you more.

Baerbel, Thank you so much for your multiple replies, particularly the latest one regarding the Alsheim Archives now being at Worms. That may explain why I have not received a reply from the Mayor of Eich; I had sent a query on 7 May 2018 to him assuming the Alsheim records may have been transferred to the Eich Registry. That query was also in the same format as the query I sent to St. Bonifatius, which might be another reason for not receiving a reply. I will contact the Worms archives, using the revised email format as you recommended. Thanks again, Dan

Baerbel, I received a reply from the Worms Archives office, which I translated via Google Translate and indicates that all they have would be sales information of House Number 183 1/5 to subsequent owners. Nothing was said about finding or providing my requested street address for that house number or the current street intersections that serve to define the boundaries of the mill complex. Do you have any other suggestions regarding who might have the requested information? Thanks, Dan.

Would you please send me a copy of your request and the reply? Thanks johnsonbx@familysearch.org

Barbel, Very interesting that you have requested these messages; I wanted to attach a copy of the reply I received from the Worms Archives to the message I sent you, but there were no clear instructions on how to do that, so I just summarized the results of their message. I would like very much to be able to attach messages to my messages to you in this group, perhaps you or someone else there could send me copies of screen shots that go along with written instructions on how to attach a message or other file to a message; a picture is always worth a thousand words! Thanks, Dan.

Baerbel, I just had a further thought on this topic. Would you prefer that I submit the requested files as an attachment to a message I send directly to you at the email address given in your posted message of yesterday? That would probably be the most straightforward process for me. Thanks, Dan

Yes, that was my thinking. It seems like the easiest way for me to get that information.
