Temple ordinances for a mission contact in 1968

Gunther Mueck and his wife Else were my landlords when I was on my Mission in the Eastern States Mission in 1968. We were well acquainted with them and had many discussions but at the time they were not interested in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
They were married before they came to the United States from Germany. During their marriage they had no children born to them. All US records do not give Else's maiden name and research has not revealed it.
During the past couple of months I have looked for this information because I felt that I was prompted to start doing their ordinances. This prompting was an overwhelming feeling the first time and since then I have had numerous times that I am reminded. their available records are now entered in the data base and I am requesting permission for my wife and I to perform them. The guidance on doing temple work for a friend can be found at
Quoting from this article
Before you can request proxy temple ordinances for a friend to whom you are unrelated, you must submit signed permission from a close living relative of your friend.
A close living relative is an undivorced spouse (the spouse to whom the individual was married at the time of death), an adult child, a parent, or sibling. Please see the Church’s General Handbook, 28.1.1.1.
...
If your deceased friend has no close living relatives that can provide written permission, then a request cannot be granted.

So you need to seek out any close living relative - presumably a child. If none are available then regretfully you cannot do the work at this time.
