How can I create group in Community?
Hi,
I believe before the renewal of the community, I was able to create new Groups. However with the new Community, I'm struggling to find a way to create a group.
Is there a way to do so?
Thank you :)

This is a great question
the whole group section of Community has been almost dead for many months . . . (compared to how active it was before the Community Upgrade) and under prior leadership
why does it seem like no one at FamilySearch is giving any importance to the GROUPS area of Community?
something that used to be so basic and easy - as requesting a new group - hasnt happened for a very long time with a few exceptions. (and we used to be allowed to admin the groups that we requested - if we so desired) - and just about anyone - LDS or not could admin a group. It was so much more inclusive and cooperative and built from the grass roots up . . .
and the activity in the group section has come down to a trickle . . . from what it used to be.
what is the current vision for the Group Section?
seems like it is on Life Support but totally neglected
It used to be much more at the core nature of what made the community a real community . . .
It really has so much potential
The reason it is so dead - is NOT for lack of potential, nor lack of usefulness of the services it was at one time providing - and could still now . . . but it just seems to have not made the list of someone's priority at FamilySearch. Nor given the resources it really needs.
Really Sad actually . . .
. . . This isnt the 1st time I bring this up . . . every new community leader that comes around I bring this up - - every since the loss of Carolyn Webber . . . she had a vision and style that no one since has even come close to equaling. The community - especially the "groups" has never been the same since.

I'm interested in the same. I tried to find a group, but it is not existing, so I would like to start one. But I cannot find this option anywhere, unfortunately.
Groups have so much potential, if managed correctly, for collaboration and improvement of the Global Tree. It can be a great place to help people with the same interest, the same geological research etc.

Good Morning Joan,
You have asked this question in FamilySearch Support, and I will answer this in an email to you.
Ther was a stop placed in creating new groups, not sure if that is still in place.
Thank You
Elder Gordon Hunter

I am still researching to ascertain if the above about not opening new groups is still applicable in FamilySearch, as soon as we know I will post the answer in here.

Thank you Gordon! Looking forward to hear about this as I'm really inspired to start a new group. I'll explain details on this on your email due to privacy reasons.

Sorry I'm slow to the convo! At this time, community members can't create a group. We've had a lot of change in community management as @Dennis J Yancey stated above. As a result, groups were paused. As the new community manager I have a lot of work to do! This is one area that we haven't tackled....yet. But we will and soon. We have to work out things like our strategy around groups and how they will be managed. I'm hoping to have some things in place before the end of the year. I know that sounds like forever but I do want you to know that I'm hearing you and I have this in my backlog of things to complete. It is really important to me that our community become a great place where people find value and want to participate. I believe groups can be a vibrant part of our community. So hang tight with me and we will get there. BTW - my team wants to get feedback from some of you about how we set groups up. Would you be interested in talking with us?
Sam 😉

Hi Sam,
Thank you for jumping in. I am for sure interested in providing feedback (with the limited experience I have on FamilySearch groups, but enough experience in other genealogy collaboration groups).
Wishing you good look on this new role and would love to hear from you!

Hi @Sam Sulser,
Do you perhaps have an update on this topic?
As groups / communities / near real-time collaboration is really something that would make FamilySearch even better (in my opinion) and stand out compared with other platforms.
The offer to talk / collaborate on this topic still stands.
Kind regards,
Joan

We are planning to keep groups in community on a smaller level and for specific purposes, like research. However, there is a great deal of work happening at FamilySearch on family groups. Currently anyone can create a family group and it has a messaging capability. There is more functionality planned around family groups in the future. Hopefully that will satisfy the needs of many who are interested in groups.
Sam ☺️
