When I was doing my research for an article in Sep 2020, the land records for Orange County Virginia were digitized online. Now they are microfilm only. Will the digitized records be available again anytime soon?

I think what you are looking for are in these search images. Here is a link:

    https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/search-results?page=1&place=395064

There billions of microfilmed images that have been digitized but have not been indexed. You can find them by clicking on Search then click on images and type in a place name.

    Search images.jpg

You will need to select the Record Type that you are interested in and then you can look at all the digitized images. You will have to be a detective and determine how the collection is organized (ie by date, or name or place etc) then you can search those images digitally.

I hope that will help you.

Thank you for contacting FamilySearch. It has been a pleasure working with you. Best wishes in finding more information about your family.
