Starting to Index

It sounds like you're on this part.
To start indexing, make sure every image can be indexed. Sometimes there will Duplicate Images and images that will need to be labeled No, No Extractable Data. Neither of these happen often, but they do happen. If, say Image 2 is an exact duplicate of Image 1, mark it as No, Duplicate Image, then choose the image that is the duplicate of. In my example, you will mark Image 2 as the duplicate and then under Select Duplicate Image, I would choose Image 1. If it's No, No Extractable Data (NED), it can be one of a couple things: either the current image is blank or the current image is a part of a project where certain images are to not be indexed. I'm currently working on Mississippi Discharge Records and there are specific images that are to be marked NED. In those cases, check thr Project Instructions and samples provided.
If everything is good, change Step 1: Indexing to Step 2: Entries. That will take you to where you can index the batch.

Hi Wendy,
Welcome to the wonderful world of indexing.
You've started just fine by clicking YES, this batch need to be indexed. The next part in smaller writing about answering this question for each image refers to the image pages. Most batches just have one image page with multiple entries to index, however sometimes a batch will have several images. If you get one of these, you will be asked if this image needs to be indexed each time you select a new image in the batch, and you need to answer YES to the question, just as you did with the first one.
I've attached a Knowledge Article about indexing that you may find useful. It also has some links to other Knowledge Articles that can help as you get started.
Be sure to ask if you have any further questions, it's never a problem to help someone get started.
Kind regards,
Barry

Welcome to our indexing group. I suggest you watch a webinar for more detailed information about indexing. The one I've linked below was created before the recent update putting Indexing under the Get involved Menu. But the speaker goes through details I think you'll find helpful. Then if you have more questions once you are working on your batch, please come back to this community and ask specific questions.
