Privacy protection for living family members.

I was shocked today when I tried the Time Line in my father's family. It gave his birth 1914-2001, then below that I showed up. It gave my full name, Birth, - LIVING- and my Pid. Where is the Privacy Protection for Living people? The site admin was Jessica ***, and I have sent her a message. With so many scams out there this is paving the road to me. My suggestion, keep LIVING people out of Public programs. I hope this is corrected quickly.

    Hello @rickfaulkner2698453

In FamilySearch, if someone else looks at the Time Line for your father, they will not see any mention of you as you are living. Records for people who are living can only been seen by the contributor who added them.

When you look at the Time Line, you will see the information for yourself, and also for any other living people who you have added.

I hope I am understanding your issue, as I don't know what you mean by "The site admin was Jessica ***". The Family Tree part of FamilySearch is a collaborative tree meaning that we all add to the same tree. But when living people are added to the tree, those records can only been seen by the contributor.

    Hi Brett,

Thank you for the explanation about the Time Line privacy policy. It was later in bed that it dawned on me that this was the case, I had reacted wrongly without thinking it over and FamilySearch does take the Privacy Policy seriously. I humbly apologize to all.

    @rickfaulkner2698453

    Rick

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

I am sorry, you do not 'seem', to have looked fully, into the matter ...

    Firstly ...

I did what you did (with My Father); and, got, the SAME results ...

    Whereas ...

    Secondly ...

We did the same thing; but, through, my Wife's 'FamilySearch' Account ...

But, we DID NOT, get, the same results.

In my Wife's 'FamilySearch' Account, I was NOT (Even) "Listed" (let alone, My "Details"), in the "Time-Line" ...

    So ...

    That Said ...

Basically, YOU, can 'see', Your OWN "Details"(ie. in the 'Time-Line'), in the Record of YOUR Father ...

As, in fact, you are, your Father's, Child ...

    Just as ...

I can 'see' MYSELF; as, a Child, of My ("Deceased") Parents; even though, I am "Living" ...

    But ...

My Wife, CANNOT, 'see' ME; as, a Child, of My ("Deceased") Parents; as, I am STILL "Living" ...

[ ie. My Wife ONLY 'sees' a "Duplicate", of the "Living" ME, in the "Private Spaces", of her 'FamilySearch' Account... ]

[ But, I CANNOT 'see', the "Duplicate", of the "Living" ME, in the "Private Spaces", of her 'FamilySearch' Account... ]

    As such ...

I would humbly suggest, that such, is NOT, a "Breach" of "Privacy".

ie. The "System", has NOT failed, in regard to "Privacy Protection".

Contrary, to your intimation, with ...

Your Question: Where is the Privacy Protection for Living people?

Short Answer: "Privacy Protection", is successfully MAINTAINED, in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.

There is NO need, for correction; as, NOTHING is wrong.

    Just my thoughts.

    Brett

    Rick

You certainly DO NOT need to apologise ...

"Living" individuals/persons; and, "Privacy", are BOTH, important matters; and, interrelated ...

MANY (of us) want to be able, to "Share", the "Living" individuals/persons, in OUR "Private Spaces"; with, OTHER Users/Patrons, primarily, our IMMEDIATE Family members; but, sometimes, EXTENDED Family.

    Whereas ...

"Privacy", MUST "Always" be paramount ... and, MUST be maintained ...

    A very fine line ...

NONE of us, want to 'see' our "Privacy", undermined ...

    [ I, for one ... ]

IF, anyone has concerns; THEN, they SHOULD raise them ...

One may be, confused; 'off base'; wrong; or, like me, forgetful ...

But, on the other hand, one may just EXPOSE, a MAJOR Problem/Issue, that has NOT been raised.

    Brett

ps: Ah, I know only too well, that after thought ...

..... We have all ... been there ... done that ... and, will still do ...
