Can a Godparent give permission for temple ordinances to be completed

Hello,

I have a friend who is a recent convert to the church who had a godson pass away when he was a teenager a few years ago before she met with the missionaries. I am wondering if she can give permission for her godson's temple work to be completed. She is not a direct family member of the deceased.

If someone could answer this question it would be awesome.

Thank you,

Kaja

We never like to relay bad news, but here is the policy: Please do not request temple ordinances for a nonrelative unless you have obtained advanced permission from a close living relative. A close relative is an undivorced spouse, adult child, parent, or sibling.

Below is a link to a Knowledge Article that will give you more information regarding this policy and steps you can take if you have permission from a close living relative.

    We hope the information helps.
