Chinese Australian Research
I was looking at the Chinese Australian Family Historians of Victoria Inc website today and thought that others may be interested to find out about this little goldmine.
They have a Victoria CEDT Index which is a online searchable index to three registers of applications for Certificates Exempting from Dictation Test (CEDT) from 1904 to 1959.
You can view the register online after searching for your person. cafhov.com/vic-cedt-index/
The registers are held by the National Archives of Australia.
The information on the register includes the name of the person, their nationality, the number of years they have lived in the Commonwealth, their occupation, residence, date and ship they left Victoria on, and the date and ship they returned on.
If you would like to read more about the register Sophie Couchman does a good job on sophiecouchman.com/2019/05/10/what-are-these-victorian-cedt-registers-any-why-do-they-matter/
I hope someone finds this useful.
