Surnames vs dashes
When indexing surnames in the 1950 Census, sometimes the last name is listed for the whole family, and other times just a long dash is listed. Is there a reason for the difference and is there something I am supposed to be doing to index these names correctly? It bothers me to no be sure if some of these people are possibly not going to have their surname listed properly.

A hyphen, dash, or empty space in the Surname field signifies that the person's last name is the same as the person from the line above.
The correct review action depends on whether you are reviewing names or reviewing families.
In Name Review
Leave the name as is and mark as a Match.
In Family Review for the 1950 US Census
Replace the dash with the appropriate surname.
