Is there an easy way to attach a source from another website to FamilySearch? (like Ancestry)

Does anyone know anything about the program RecordSeek?

Have seen some very limited use in our neck of the woods in the shared tree for RecordSeek. As a user, I prefer active Family Search links or sources that contain detailed content explanation, not just an ancestry.com url that goes "dead" after several years, thus becoming dead weight on a profile's source list.

Helen, Thanks for this is a great question. If we understand your request, you want to attach a source manually from another website to a person in your Tree.

Here are the steps to attach a source from another website:

    1. While signed in to FamilySearch, navigate to the Person page of the individual that the source references.
    2. Click and Display the person's Sources from the menu at the top.
    3. Click Add Source, then Add New Source.
    4. As you enter the source, provide enough information for another person to find it. As a minimum, we like to fill in an Event Date (Year), Source Title (Required), WEB PAGE URL, and a Reason.
    5. It is also very helpful to look at the box at the bottom of the entry, Select the Information or Events in this Source, and click the boxes here that apply to information found in the source. This will attach the source to each item in the person's Vitals on the Person page.

Here is a direct link to two Knowledge Articles that further detail sourcing:

We went to FamilySearch Wiki for an answer on RecordSeek. RecordSeek is a free third-party affiliate product for FamilySearch that enables patrons to quickly create Family Tree sources from online records. RecordSeek places an "applet" on your internet browser bookmarks bar. This applet is called "RecordSeek" and can be used to autofill the fields used to create a source in Family Tree.

Internet browsers commonly allow patrons to create direct links to allow easy access to particular web pages. For different browsers, these direct links have different names: bookmarks, favorites, etc. These direct links are typically located at the top of the internet browser. RecordSeek is one of these direct links that can be placed on your internet browser.

To learn more about RecordSeek we have attached a direct link to the Wiki on RecordSeek.
