Zooming of 1950 census pages

I see several questions being asked about the zooming issue; i.e., pages will zoom in but not stay larger...popping right back to a smaller view. I have to use a magnifier to see some of the information! Any prediction on when it will be fixed?

@David Jenssen, this issue has been reported. You can zoom in now by putting your curser on the little white line that is in the middle of the brown box that is between the document and the indexing and drag it down by holding the left click on your mouse and it will zoom in so you can see it better.

I hope this helps. Thank you for commenting!

I need to see the document closer and I can only get it to zoom in a little. If I keep hitting the zoom in button, it increases once and will go no further in,

I saw that too. It's not you.

The mouse scroll direction flips. When zoom one way stops, scroll the mouse the other direction.

As of this morning, I am no longer able to zoom in enough to read some of the lighter or more difficult writings. Is anyone else experiencing this issue today?

As of today, I am no longer able to zoom in close enough while indexing families. This is making it very difficult to read the very light writings and the more difficult handwriting. Why was this changed and can it be changed back? I do not feel comfortable indexing families this way because I would just be guessing and the information will be less accurate.

Between early April and April 26th, in 1950 census review, the census image would auto-zoom and center to make the pertinent portion of the census sheet more easily readable. If I needed to scroll the image vertically, I could grab the scroll bar on the right side of the viewing window.

This morning (April 28), census images are reduced to show the full width of the page. I am unable to zoom-in as much as I could before, and there is no vertical scroll bar.

@Kenneth Keller_1 it seems we are having a few complaints about this. It has been reported and there is a workaround:  It seems to zoom to a point and then quits. I think it is because of the "brown" "working information bar" that is between the document and the indexing. In the center there is a white line that you can drag down and it will increase the the size of the document. But it then causes you to need to scroll down in the indexing to verify all of the boxes, which is a small price to pay.

We hope that this helps you until it is fixed.

Another method that I use (while awaiting the fix) is to use the snipping tool on my computer. After enlarging as much as I can with the census tool, I then take a snapshot using the snipping tool and enlarge it. I have also used the actual image (available in various places, though I use the "Browse this collection" at the link shown below).

The images are also available on FamilySearch at:

The Windows Magnifier can sometimes help (obviously - for Windows users). And you can click through the magnifier to select a Next button, etc., or to adjust the amount of magnification. Also, I suggest using it as a rectangular box around the cursor.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-magnifier-to-make-things-on-the-screen-easier-to-see-414948ba-8b1c-d3bd-8615-0e5e32204198

Below is how it looks on this comment. It's set at 300% magnification. Also, you can turn it ON with the shortcut Win+{Plus sign} and OFF with Win+Esc. Where Win is the Windows key (looks like a flag - in the lower left of your keyboard.

Very annoying. You can zoom and move around the page at times, like when reviewing the names selected on the Review Families, and then when you need to see other details on the page you can't zoom in enough to make the report accurate, especially in fields that were written in after the initial census taking.

And when doing header reviews, if you zoom in you seem to lose the ability to see the top lines.

New trick to share about zoom difficulties -

On header review, if you need to really zoom in on something, select the icon which will take you to the options to increase or decrease contrast and brightness and invert the image colors. This will remove the fields to add info and allow you to zoom way in on the image. Icon I'm referring to is below.

Two of us seasick here. After four or more hours a day we are seeking a way to turn off the huge zoom feature for the surnames. We are really uncomfortable with this new feature. Please help us.

I am having trouble zooming in on the header to read the enumerator's name. The zoom does not enlarge enough. Need some tech help.

This new feature where the surname increases in size followed by the given name shrinking in size is impossible to work with. The eyes cannot continually refocus hundreds of times in a short period without having problems. Try reading a book when the size of the text keeps shifting. I can't do this anymore. Sorry.

Every name zooms the last name large; then it makes the first name normal. So, if you have to proof every first and last name as on a page of lodgers, the eyes cross! If it a family with multiple children and you can just go down the list, it doesn't change size. Is there a fix for this?

Totally agree with cin. Eyes cannot keep refocusing. i can do 3-400 very quickly but this just make me dizzy. Please revert to the way it was!

THERE IS A WICKED ZOOM ISSUE TODAY!

I AM NOT YELLING IN ALL CAPS, JUST LEGALLY BLIND.

I AM UNABLE TO ZOOM IN CLOSE ENOUGH TO READ THE CENSUS AND CORRECT THE INDEX AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE TO SLIDE THE RED ZONE DOWN AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE TO READ THE DOCUMENT, THEN PULL IT UP TO CORRECT THE FIELDS. SEE SCREENSHOT EXAMPLE. THIS IS REDICULOUS, I'VE TRIED SEVERAL STATES AND THEY ARE ALL DOING THE SAME THING. I HAVE REPORTED IT THROUGH FEEDBACK ON THE PAGES BUT THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING AND WASTES A TON OF TIME.

I'M NOT YELLING IN ALL CAPS, JUST LEGALLY BLIND. TODAY I'M EXPERIENCING WICKED ZOOM ISSUES. TO BE ABEL TO ZOOM IN ON THE SPECIFIC INFO BEING INDEXED I HAVE TO MOVE THE RED SLIDER ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM. THEN TO CORRECT INFO IN THE INDEXING I HAVE TO MOVE THE RED SLIDER UP AND THE CENSUS PAGE ZOOMS OUT TO COMPLETELY UNREADABLE. THIS IS HAPPENING IN EVERY STATE I'VE TRIED TO WORK ON TODAY. I'VE REPORTED THE ISSUE ON FEEDBACK. THIS IS BEYOND FRUSTRATING AND WASTING A TON OF VALUABLE INDEXING TIME.

IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS ISSUE? HAVE I DONE SOMETHING THAT HAS CAUSED THIS ISSUE AND WHAT IS THE FIX?
